A Strict Adherence to Preservation through Adventure

A Strict Adherence to Preservation through Adventure

We have been debating back and forth with one another on the team for months now as to what types of sports we should allow onto our website. Do we just want all adventure sports, only the most extreme, only environmentally friends sports…etc? This company is one that stands for both adventure and for environment and the decision was tough. Sports like ATV’ing, Dirt Biking, Motor Boating and so on were easy ones to say we won’t be working with (unless of course, the snowmobiling company is running on clean biodiesel =). But the real issue came into question when we were looking at sports like Hot Air Ballooning, Skydiving, Heli-skiing, and gliding. These are sports we love, but also sports that notoriously are rough on the environment. They are largely not human powered or environmentally friends (usually because it takes so much energy to get you up in the air). Yesterday though, we made a firm declaration: We are only going to be a home for Human Powered and Environmentally Friendly Sports. Adventures that promote preservation by getting people outdoors and by generating their economy by preserving the beauty around them rather than destroying it. And Oh man, does it ever feel good to have made the decision! Rafting, Kayaking, Climbing, Mountaineering, Paragliding, Hang Gliding, Skiing, Snowbaording, Surfing, Hiking, Sledging, Base Jumping, Cycling, Mountain Biking…etc there are still plenty of sports to go around! With that said, we are not naive and we know that if we don’t work with the companies that still need to innovate, such as Helli-skiing, skydiving, and gliding they will continue to do business as usual. To this end, we are making a call out to all those outfitters whose sports aren’t normally human powered or environmentally friendly and we are challenging to change the paradigm. If they run their airplane off of bio fuels, if they donate their profits to counteract the environmental hazards of their work, if they offset their footprints by purchasing carbon credits… then we would love to work with them! In doing so, we hope to create a shift in the adventure sports industry towards preservation through adventure and towards human powered or environmentally friendly sports!

This is why we are cycling the west coast and haven’t been in a car in two weeks. In turn, this is why we love and believe in what we are doing. And as a quick plug, I’d like for you to do one thing: close your computer, come find us, and join us for the ride. It is going to be one hell of an adventure and we are trying to make it into a movement .
